FAVORITE ALBUMS 2024

Dec 26, 2024 | Favorites

Lots of heavy metal this year, which I suppose is no different than last year. I also went to a wide range of great shows. The actual rankings are somewhat irrelevant and could change depending on my mood. I stand by all the albums listed here, though.

You can find my Favorite Songs 2024 playlist on Apple and Spotify.

10. St. Vincent – All Born Screaming

St. Vincent is always a little hit and miss with me. I found All Born Screaming to be one of her most solid releases. She also puts on a fantastic live show.

9. Amythyst Kiah – Still + Bright

There is something for me to love on every album Amythyst Kiah has put out; this one is definitely her brightest and most accessible.

8. Psychonaut – Unfold the God Man

I love Mastodon and Gojira, and these guys seem to take from the best of both acts. I really enjoyed this album and the follow up Violent Consensus Reality.

7. Alphawhores – I

Brother and sister duo from Panama. Very thick and noisy sounds balanced by great vocal harmonies

6. Arka’n Asrafokor – Dzikkuh

Todo’s only metal band shows a ton of promise. This album was good, but I feel like they are capable of great and will get there with time.

5. In Flames – The Jester Race

This was a great high times bike ride album. I can’t believe I never listened to this album before, because it’s the best thing In Flames has done by a wide margin.

4. Striker – Ultra Power

This album is just super fucking fun. Also, highly relatable lyrics. It really does suck to suck. Party metal it’s finest. Thank you to Lindsay for the recommendation!

3. SpiritboxThe Fear of Fear

Spiritbox really hits my sweet spot combo of melody, atmosphere, and brutality. I’m obsessed with Courtney LaPlante’s voice. I’m glad to see they are blowing up.

2. Imminence – The Black

I love the mix of strings and screams. They also have screamo vibes that I found enjoyable. I’m a sucker for music that’s as heavy as it is melodic. This album checks all of the right boxes consistently throughout.

1. Be’lakor – Stone’s Reach

Stumbled upon this album while listening to a Ghost Brigade. Their albums Coherence and Vessels could be easily made this list, too. I’ve really enjoyed losing myself in Be’lakors music this year. I’m looking forward to rocking them on some spring bike rides in the new year.

Honorable Mentions:

It’s always difficult to narrow things down. The main reason for most of these not making the top list is simple; they all have some skippable tracks. They also all feature some of my favorite songs this year.

Beyonce – Cowboy Carter
The Depths Beneath Us – The Depths Beneath Us
Miley Cyrus – Plastic Hearts
Omar Apollo – God Said No
Orville Peck – Bronco
Kalandra – The Line

Rediscovered Gems:

There was good range of favorites revisited this year, and one of them lead me to discovering my favorite album of the year.

Ghost Brigade – Until Fear No Longer Defines Us
Dredg – Leitmotif
Saul Williams – The Inevitable Rise
Strata – Sleep
Science Fiction – Brand New
At the Gates – Slaughter of  the Soul
